Lotion FAQ'sWhat makes lotions different? What are Tingles/Hots? What are Bronzers? What are Cooling Lotions? Should I use them? Lotions come in many varieties. Some lotions are designed for beginner tanners, others for the most extreme, and still some for those in between. It is important to understand the strength of your lotion before use. This eliminates dissatisfaction. Two key types of lotions are tingle and bronzer. Application - It is important to apply lotion in a circular motion, rather than straight up and down lines. This helps avoid streaking. Also, it is important to wipe the palms of your hands, and in between your fingers after application, before getting into the tanning bed. Amount - Many lotion manufactures suggest about 1/2 (.5) oz. of lotion per application. Certainly physical size and skin dryness affect this. As a good judge, most people will get one, maybe two applications from a single packette. Bronzer - Bronzing lotions have self tanning additives that enhance the tanning process. The color from bronzing lotions develops in 2 to 4 hours. Any tanner can use bronzers. A key factor to understand about bronzing lotions is application. It is important to apply this type of lotion in a circular motion, rather than straight up and down lines. This, with any type of lotion, helps avoid streaking. Also, it is important to wipe the palms of your hands, and in between your fingers after application, before getting into the tanning bed. Also, be careful around your feet and face, ensuring even application. Tingle/Hot - Tingle and Hot lotions are just that. They stimulate and increase microcirculation of the skin for greater tanning results. This causes blook vessels in the skin to open, resulting in increased blood flow. Both tingle and heat create an immediate reddening and warming to heating sensation throughout the skin. Tingle and hot products offer the strongest tanning results, and come in a range of strengths. It is important to consult with a tanning specialist before using any tingle or hot products as they must be used in a sequential order to avoid irritation. The tingle and heat will continue for about 20-45 minutes after your tanning session. Individual reactions to the tingle or heat may vary. Tanners who already have a base tan should use tingles and hot lotions. Cooling Lotions - Cooling products counteract heat by drawing warmth away from the skin. Any tanner can use cooling lotions. However, cooling lotions that also have heat or tingle are best for clients who already have a base tan.
